Biography

Tabitha Stroud was born on 15 April 1772 at Hillsborough, Orange Co., NC.[1][2]. Her parents were John Stroud and Sarah Connolly, but there is no hard documentation.

She married Jonathan Melton (1769-1815). [3][4] whose parentage is unknown. Some suggest his father was Nathan Nathaniel Melton, other possibilities are Jeremiah Melton, Robert Melton or an elder Jonathan Melton. Brothers listed are: one named Nathan and the other named Nathaniel) and possibly Robert Melton or Jeremiah Melton, and his mother has at various times over the past thirty-five years been identified by various researchers as Nancy Allen, Nancy King, Nancy Queen, Nancy Keen or Mary LNU. It is likely Tabitha and Jonathan married either in Franklin County, Georgia or Clarke County, Georgia about 1790. Tabitha's married name was Tabitha Melton.

Eliel Melton was a son of Tabitha, who was an Alamo Defender who was killed in the Alamo. See Eliel Melton.

Tabitha Stroud Melton and Jonathan Melton were founding members of the Mars Hill Baptist Church in Clarke County, GA.

The 1850 Census lists Tabitha Melton. [5]

Tabitha died in 1852 in Monroe, Walton, Georgia, United States.[6]

Another genealogy, which may or may not be accurate has Tabitha as the daughter of William and Sarah Stroud. That geneaology says she and her husband moved to Christian County, KY, with children John P.. Martha. Margaret. Mary. Sarah. etc.[7]

Tabitha was born in 1772. She passed away in 1852. [8]
