Catherine was born on 9 February 1671 at the Palace of Whitehall in London, a daughter of James Duke of York and his wife, Anne Hyde. Her mother died on 31 March and Catherine followed her to the grave on 5 December, dying at St James's Palace. She was buried in Westminster Abbey. [1]
