Biography

Sarah Elizabeth "Sue" Stuart Oakley passed away May 14, 2015, peacefully in her home after a long illness. Sue was born January 20, 1926 to Roy Rush Stuart and Roberta Ceil Owens Stuart. She grew up the oldest daughter of six children in Scooba, MS. She attended East Mississippi Community College in Scooba, MS majoring in Business; while there she met and married the love of her life, William Claude "Billy" Oakley. In her early married years, Sue was a homemaker and mother while Billy attended Memphis State. She and Billy lived in several North East Mississippi towns in their early married years as he was developing his coaching career. They eventually settled in Senatobia, MS when Billy became a teacher and basketball coach at Northwest Jr. College. There they raised 5 children.

After her children started school Sue began a career in banking. She worked for Peoples Bank in Senatobia as a teller for 25 years where she made many lifelong friends. Sue was dedicated to her family and a loving mother to her children and loving Nana to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Claude "Billy" Oakley, sons William Kenneth "Kenny" Oakley, Richard Stuart "Dicky" Oakley, and four brothers; Sam Stuart, John Stuart, Hasie Stuart and Ronnie Stuart. She leaves behind three children Phillip Claude Oakley (wife Debbie) of Senatobia, MS, Gary Smith Oakley (wife Lynn) of Senatobia, MS, and Susan Oakley Heath (husband Stan) of Bartlett, TN, 13 grandchildren Brian Stuart Oakley, Byron Andrew Oakley, Christopher Austin Brooks Oakley, Nathan Patrick Oakley, Michael David Smith, Jason Scott Oakley, Jeremy Shane Oakley, Allison Ann Oakley, William Andrew Oakley, Elizabeth Nicole Grass, Richard Landon Oakley, Jennifer Suzanne Heath, and Thomas Robert Oakley, great grandchildren, Lucas Ryder Oakley, Braxton Cole Ainsworth, Katherine Elizabeth Oakley, Finley Mae Oakley, Nora Latham Oakley, Elizabeth Grace Oakley, Michael Hayes Smith, William Harrison Smith and Benjamin Nolan Smith, two sisters, Joyce Stuart Cooper of Bogalusa, LA, Jeannette Stuart Tarver of Shreveport, LA, and many nieces and nephews.

She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Senatobia, MS. She enjoyed crocheting and giving her crochet as gifts to her friends and family. She was an avid Senatobia Warrior fan and known throughout her community lovingly to everyone as "Nana" whether she was related to them or not. She never met a stranger and always had a smile and kind word for everyone. She leaves behind a loving family and many friends in her community who will miss her greatly.
