Daniel Stuart Snr. was born on 23 October 1756 in Wells, York, Massachusetts Bay, British Colonial America. He was the son of Elijah Stewart (1732 –  ?) and his wife Tabitha Morrison (1733 –  ?).

He was a soldier of the Revolution and served a year in the Continental army, and received a pension until his death Dec. 29, 1843. aged 87, at the home of his son Joseph.
