William Aurand Stuart was born on 19 November 1909 in Roanoke, Virginia, United States. He was the son of William Stuart and his wife Mary Walker.

William Aurand Stuart graduated as a Lieut. from the United States Naval Academy in 1932. From October of 1954 to October of 1955 he commanded the Sea Tender USS Pine Island and was the Commanding Officer of the Aircraft Carrier Ticonderoga from October 8, 1956 to October 4, 1957.

He passed away on 27 March 2001 in Annapolis, Anne Arundel, Maryland, United States.
