Biography

William Thomas Stubbs was born in 1869. He was the son of John Stubbs and Lummie Allen.[1]

The US Census of 1870 shows the family lived in Ireland, Taylor, Kentucky (Post Office Campbellsville), and William was 9 months old. Father, John, was a white male, age 25, and owned a farm worth about $3500.[2]

In the US Census of 1880 he is shown as living with John and Lummie in Ireland, Taylor, Kentucky at age 11. His siblings were Maude, age 12, Fielding, age 9, Cora, age 7, and probable twins, Annie and Adda, age 5. Father John was a farmer and was born in Virginia.[3]

William married Senia Sullivan on 23 February, 1898 in Taylor Kentucky. At that time, he was 28 years old, and Miss Sullivan was 20.[4]

The census of 1900 shows William as the head of the household, but living next to his parent's residence. He was a farmer, and he and his wife, Senia, were the parents of a new son, young David E Stubbs, age 7 months, born in July of 1877.[5]

In 1910 the household continued to reside in Taylor, Kentucky, with the family subsisting on the land as farmers. No other children besides David lived in the home with William and Senia.[6]

The census of 1920 shows the family resided in Taylor Kentucky with William age 50, Senia Age 42, and son David age 20.

In 1930, son David obtained a marriage license for his wedding to Estella Smith, age 23, of Colesburg, Kentucky; she had been married once before.[7] Later that same year, the family lived together at the time of the census, showing Estella had moved in with the three Stubbs.[8]

The US Census of 1940 shows that the family lived on Columbia Highway in Taylor County, Kentucky. William T lived on a farm that he owned. William T estimated the value of the home (not the entire farm) as $1,000. The equivalent in today’s dollars is $19,000. Family members living in the home were William, age 70, Senia age 62, David age 40 and Estella age 32.[9]

William Thomas Stubbs passed away on 2 November, 1948 in Coburg, Taylor, Kentucky of colon cancer. He was 79 years old.[10] William was buried in Griffin Cemetery, Hatcher, Taylor County, Kentucky.[11]
