Biography

Mary Ann Stultz (Stults) was born on January 21, 1832 in Sandusky County, Ohio. She was the daughter of James Stults and Matilda Greek. ^{[1] [2] [3]}

The 1840 Federal Census listed Mary (1 of 2 Females between 5-9) as living with her parents James (1 Male between 30-39) and Matilda (1 female between 30-39), her sister unknown (1 Female between 10-14), her sister Louisa (1 of 2 Females between 5-9), her sisters Harriett and Jemina E. (2 Females under 5) and her brother Peter (1 Male between 10-14) in Madison Township, Sandusky, Ohio. ^[4]

Mary's brother Peter Stults passed away on January 21, 1845.

Mary's sister Jemina E. Stults passed away on January 15, 1849.

The 1850 Federal Census, taken September 12th, listed Mary, age 18, as living with her parents James and Matilda, her sister Louisa, Harriet and Maria E> and her brother Isaac J. in District No. 20, Jackson Township, Sandusky. Ohio. ^[5]

Mary Ann Stultz (Stults) married Elias Schell on November 12, 1854 in Sandusky County, Ohio. ^[6]

The 1860 Federal Census, taken July 17th, listed Mary, age 28, as living with John Hoot and Family with her husband Elias and her sons Henry Edward and James A. Schell in Madison Township, Sandusky, Ohio. ^[7]

Mary's father James Stults passed away on January 16, 1870.

The 1870 Federal Census, taken July 25th, listed Mary, age 39, as living with her husband Elias and her sons Henry Edward, James A., Isaac Victor Schell and Elias Leown in East Grove Township, Lee, Illinois. Her occupation was listed as keeping house. ^[8]

The 1880 Federal Census, taken June 7th & 8th, listed Mary, age 48, as living with her husband Elias, her sons Henry Edward, James A., Isaac Victor and Elias Leown and her daughter Hattie Mae in East Grove Township, Lee, Illinois. Her occupation was listed as keeping house. ^[9]

Mary's mother Matilda Greek Stults passed away on July 16, 1880

Mary passed away on February 7, 1890 in Illinois at age 58. She was buried in Union Cemetery in La Moille, Bureau, Illinois. ^[3] (Note: She shares a common stone with her husband Elias.)
