George Presley Stump, former Adams county supervisor from Houston township and extensive land owner, died at his home, 612 North Eighteenth street at midnight Wednesday night after an illness of about four years. Several years ago he suffered a paralytic stroke that affected his lower limbs and since his condition had grown gradually worse.
Mr. Stump was born near Big Neck in 1862 and was sixty-two years of age. He was a son of Marion and Hannah Stump, pioneers of the county. Most of his life was spent in the old homestead in Houston township. Fifteen years ago he moved to California and four years PRO returned to Adams county and located in Quincy. Since his return he had been an invalid.
For many years he was active in Democratic politics and served several years as supervisor, retiring just before his removal to the west. The Stump family owned and operated about fifty acres of land near Big Neck.
Mr. Stump was married to Miss Olive Judy, of Gilmer township The wife, his father who lives with the family here, two sons. Marion, who lives at home and Burnet, living on the old homestead, and three granddaughters survive. Another son, Shirley, was killed in an explosion in the laboratories of the Standard Oil company in Los Angeles where he was employed as a chemist, about five years ago.[1]
