Biography

Benjamin was born in 1841. He was the son of Michael Stump and Mary Daugherty. He passed away in 1921.

The son of Michael & Mary Ann (Dacherty [Daugherty?]) Stump, in 1860 he was a laborer living in Dallastown, York Township, York County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 8" tall and had dark hair and hazel eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in York September 2, 1861 and mustered into federal service there September 14 as a private with Co. C, 87th Pennsylvania Infantry. After falling ill in October 1863, he was thereafter unable to perform any active duty but nonetheless honorably discharged at term's end October 13, 1864. He is in the company register by his middle name and apparently was always known as "Frank."

He married Emma Frances Burchival June 2, 1866, and fathered Washington A. (b. 03/06/67), Mary M. (b. 08/28/72 - married Harvey Kauffman), Frances A. (b. 01/03/75 - married a Chaney), Lillie M. (b. 07/19/77 - married a Klinedinst), Emma Jane (b. 08/29/79 - married John Albert Kellenberger), Sadie Irene (b. 03/12/81 - married Charles William Senft), Clarence A. (b. 09/12/88), and Myrtle C. (b. 10/06/92 - married a Breighner). In 1890, he lived in Jackson Township, York County, and died in Spring Grove from "arteriosclerosis - senile heart."
