Leonard Stump III was my (unknown author) 2nd great-grandfather. He was born about 1800 in what is now Hardy County, West Virginia. His parents were Leonard Stump Jr. (1767-1827) and Elizabeth See (1771-1827). He married Mary Morrow 23 July 1820, in Hardy County, West Virginia. They had nine children; the first four were born in Hardy, Virginia: James Perry, abt 1823, Mary Jane abt 1825, Elizabeth Jane, 1826, and Phoebe Ann, abt 1830. Their last five children were born in Gasconade County, Missouri: Paulina, abt 1834, Amanda abt 1837, Thomas Benton abt 1840, Gideon abt 1844, and Dorcus abt 1846.

Leonard apparently died between 1880 and 1900 in Gasconade County, Missouri. His burial place is unknown.

Note about the name: there are many Leonard Stumps. I show my 2nd great-grandfathers' name as Leonard Stump 3rd because that is how it appears on the 1820 marriage certificate signed by Benedict Reynolds, Minister of the Gospel in Hardy, Virginia.
