Biography

Bailey Stump, son of Jacob Sr and Jane Boggs,[1][2] born December 22 1840 in Lewis County (now Gilmer County) (West) Virginia and died February 18 1931 in Braxton County, West Virginia.[3]He was living with his widowed mother, sister Ruhala and Mason W a 6 y/o male in 1860.[4] He was assisting his mother in running her farm. He married Sarah Sutton, daughter of Felix and Susan Skidmore Sutton January 1 1861.[5]

By 1870 Jane was living with his family and his wife, Sarah Sally, 33, and he had four children, John S., Susan, Gideon and Lurie.[6] Jane was not living with them in 1880 but another daughter, Molly had joined the family. Bailey was a farmer all of his life.[7]

  4. Lurie (Lura) b 1868, m Cyrus Clifton King Sep 28 1908 officiated by Rev John S Stump, her brother.[12]
  5. Molly b 1872, m 1) Henry C Duffield Aug 6 1924 officiated by Rev John S Stump Sr, her brother.[13]

Research Notes

A Mollie Stump 21 y/o m Warner Jenkins in 1908. She would have been born about 1887 and Bailey and Sarah Stump's Mollie was 8 y/o, born 1872, on the 1880 census cited above.

The Findagrave Memorial [14] birth date is in conflict with the birth date on his death certificate in West Virginia vital statistics cited above. On the record it states he was 90 yr 1 mo 27 da old and had not had a birthday in the year 1931. On December 22 1931 he would have been 91 yr old and born 1840.
