Graduated from Peddie in 1939. Took a trip to Europe that summer, returning on the SS Rotterdam.
Joined the American Field Service in 1940. Served in Syria and North Africa. Was wounded when his ambulance ran over a mine in 1943. Was decorated for his service with the British 8th Army during the War. Returned from Suez, Egypt, aboard the SS Dan Beard, arriving in Mobile, AL, on 17 Sep 1943.
