Book: "Genealogical History of the Sturgeons of North America"
by Claudius T. McCoy (1926)
James I, son of John I, was born in 1758, probably in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, and went with his father to Kentucky (Nelson County, John W. says) where he married Elizabeth ___ and they moved to Hart County, Kentucky where they reared a family of ten children: James, John, Jeremiah, Rolly, Laura, Ransom, Traux, Betsy, Obadiah and Polly. I have the history of two of these, Jeremiah and Obadiah. Rolly is said to have gone to Indiana. (page 183)

lindawheeler77 says:
My husband is a Wheeler and I have been researching his family, the person who gave me the bible thought it might be our family, but I cannot find a tie to our Wheelers. I live in Carrollton, Carroll Co., Missouri the bible is in very bad shape but the page with the information on it is very clear. I intend to give the bible back to the person that gave it to me. Linda Wheeler
Additional evidence:
The Wheeler book says Leonard's father, Samuel Wheeler, moved to Kentucky in 1819.
It appears Wheeler family has 1830 census in Hart Co., KY, same as Sturgeon family in 1820.
Elizabeth (Sturgeon) Wheeler has son named Traux, which it also the name of her brother.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Mary by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Mary:
