"He settled in his native place as a merchant. He was appointed, in May, 1740, to the position of County Surveyor, and held that office for twelve and a half years. He was commissioned as Captain in the Militia in 1748." (Dexter)
In May 1743, he made a petition to the Hartford Assembly, regarding his wife and her father and grandfather's estate, and that the estate had not been settled, and he wished the Assembly to hear and adjust the accounts.[1]
