He married Cynthia Minnie Kidder on 02 Nov 1870 in Keene
 and the couple moved to Boston where William was a musician
 . They were married for 30 years. She died in March of 1900 in Boston. He continued to live in Boston for s time and never remarried.
In 1910 he returned to Keene and lived in the household of his nieces and nephews on Terrace Street. He had an office in the house where he taught music
He passed away in 1922 having been battling senility for several years. His advanced Arteriosclerosis contributed to his lack of personal care, so when he was injured, the injury turned gangrenous and he passed away
He is buried in the Woodland Cemetery in Keene, Cheshire County, New Hampshire
