Biography

  • Ella was born to Frederick Suckow and Eliza Doll Suckow on September 1st 1882 in Clarence, Erie, New York [1]. Ella was the last of four children known to be born to Fred and Eliza, three girls and one boy, Clara (1869), Henry (1873), Charlotte (1875) and Ella (1882).
  • Ella's father, Frederick Suckow, died on October 21st 1891 at Bowmansville, Lancaster, Erie, New York Find A Grave: Memorial #116091531.
  • In the 1892 New York, State Census [2] [3] we find Ella (10) in a household with her siblings Lottie (17), Henry (20), and Clara (28) and their widowed mother Eliza (43) and her mother's mother (Lottie's grandmother) Margaret Doll (72). They are living in Lancaster, Erie, New York where Eliza works as a salon keeper and Henry is a bartender.
  • Ella's mother, Eliza Doll Suckow died on June 12th 1895 in Bowmansville, Lancaster, Erie, New York [4].
  • In the 1900 United States Federal Census [5] [6] [7] [8] we find Clara (31) and husband Walter Charles (30) living in Lancaster, Erie, New York where Charles works as a home decorator. Clara's sister, Ella (17), is living with Clara and Charles and works as a dress maker.
  • Ella married Leonard Jacob Cimmerer on February 13th 1901 in Bowmansville, Lancaster, Erie, New York [9]. One child, a son, Carlton (1917) is known to be born to the marriage.
  • In the 1905 New York, State Census [10] [11] we find Leonard (28) and Ella (22) maintaining a household and living with them are Ella's sister Lottie (29) and husband Hervey (30) who is Leonard's brother - the 2 sisters married the 2 brothers. A boarder, Carl Stock (44) also lives in the household. They live in Bowmansville, Lancaster, Erie, New York where Leonard is a machinist, and Hervey and Carl are day laborers.
  • In the 1910 United States Federal Census [12] [13] [14] [15] we find Lottie (36) and Hervey (37) still living with her sister Ella (33) and Ella's husband Leonard (33). The reside in a rented home on Genesee Road in Lancaster, Erie, New York where Leonard works as a helper in a railroad shop and Hervey is a laborer doing odd jobs.
  • In a January 5th 1915 "New York Land Record" [16] we find a "land assessment" for a "Grantee Index to Deeds" for grantor, Lottie Cimmerer & O and Grantee, Ella and Leonard Cimmerer on January 2nd 1915.
  • In a September 10th 1915 "New York Land Record" [17] we find a "land assessment" for a "Grantee Index to Deeds" for grantor, John J. Hartel and Grantee, Ella and Leonard Cimmerer & O on January 2nd 1915.
  • In the 1915 New York, State Census [18] [19] we find Ella (32) and Leonard (37) living on Genesee Road in Lancaster, Erie, New York shown on a census page with many relatatives, Cimmerer, Suckow and Pope. Leonard works as a boilermaker for the New York City Rail Road.
  • Ella and Leonard's son, Carlton Henry Cimmerer, is born on June 19th 1917 in Buffalo, Erie, New York [20].
  • In the 1920 United States Federal Census [21] [22] [23] [24] we find Lottie (44) and Hervey (45) living with Ella (37) and Leonard (42) and Ella and Leonard's son Carlton (2.5years) in an owned free home in Lancaster, Erie, New York where Leonard works as a boilermaker and Hervey is a laborer.
  • In the 1925 New York, State Census [25] [26] we find Leonard (48), Ella (43) and their son, Carlton (7), living in Lancaster, Erie, New York where Leonard is a boilermaker. They appear on a page with many relatives, Cimmerer, Suckow and Pope.
  • Ella's sister, Charlotte, died on April 5th 1929 in Lancaster, Erie, New York [27].
  • In the 1930 United States Federal Census [28] [29] [30] [31] we find Leonard (43), Ella (40) and their son Carleton (12) living on Genesee Road in Lancaster, Erie, New York where Leonard is a boilermaker. Leonard's brother, Herbert (55), a widower, lives with the family and works as a laborer for the railroad.
  • On July 2nd 1938 Ella is appointed as the postmaster in Bowmansville, Lancaster, Erie, New York [32]
  • In the 1940 United States Federal Census [33] [34] [35] [36] we find Clara Dalton (71) living in the home (owned) of her sister Ella Cimmerer (59), her husband Leonard (62) and the couple's son Carlton (22) where Leonard is a night watchman for road construction, Carlton is an office clerk, and the two sisters are not shown as employed.
  • Ella's brother, Henry, died on January 18th 1945 in Lancaster, Erie, New York [37].
  • In a July 27th 1945 "New York Land Record" [38] we find a "land assessment" for a "Grantee Index to Deeds" for grantor, Ella &I Leonard Cimmerer and Grantee, Christina B. Riexinger on July 25th 1945.
  • Ella died on November 4th 1947 in Bowmansville, Lancaster, Erie, New York [39] [40] [41] [42].
  • Ella's funeral was at her home at 14 Main Street, Bowmansville, Lancaster, Erie, New York on Friday the 7th of November 1947 at 2:30pm [43].
  • Ella was laid to rest in the Transit Rural Cemetery in Bowmansville, Lancaster, Erie, New York [44] [45] [46]
  • Ella's husband, Leonard, is not known to have remarried and died on May 19th 1964 in Lancaster, Erie, New York. He was laid to rest in the Transit Rural Cemetery in Bowmansville, Lancaster, Erie, Pennsylvania where Ella was buried [47] Find A Grave: Memorial #73094954.
