Biography

She was born Diamond Sudds, but was known later as Vina Dora Sudds.

Diamond was born in January 1878 in Chocolay Township, Marquette, Michigan, United States, the daughter of Addison, a farmer, and Louisa Sudds, both born in New York, residents of Chocolay. [1]

    • Vina’s father, Addison Clarence Sudds, was born in 1849 New York, and died in 1942 Washington State. He was the son of William Daniel Sudds (1811-1868) and Mary, born 1822. Vina’s mother, Louisa Laramie was born 1861 New York, and died 1942 in Washington State.
    • Vina married Everett Ball on 20 July 1898.

In 1900, the Ball family lived in Crystal Falls City, Iron County, Michigan, United States. The household included Everett Ball, 25, born September 1874 in New Jersey. His parents were born in England. Everett was a Stationary Engineer who owned their house with a mortgage; his wife of two years, Veria (Vina), 22, born January 1878 in Michigan. Her parents were born in New York. Vina had had one child; their daughter, Esther M., two months old, born April 1900 in Michigan. [2]

In 1910, the Ball family lived in their rented house in Highland Boy, Salt Lake County, Utah. All members of the household were born in Michigan, except as noted. The family included Everett Ball, 35, born in New York, a stationary engineer; his wife of twelve years, Vina, 32, who had had five children, all of whom were living; their children, all in school, except for the youngest two: Esther, 10; Rufus, 8; Clarence, 6; Vernon, 4; and Frances, 1, who was born in Utah. In 1920, the Ball family lived in their rented house in Highland Flat, Salt Lake County, Utah. All members of the household could read and write, except for the youngest two. The family included Everett G. Ball, 45, born in New Jersey (parents b. England), a copper mine stationary engineer; his wife, Vina D., 42, born in Michigan (parents b. NY), their children, born in Michigan, Rufus, 17, a copper mine machinist; Clarence, 16; Vernon, 14; and their children, born in Utah, Frances, 11; and twins, Roger and Mildred, 9. All of the children were in school, except for Rufus, the eldest, who was working. [4]

In 1930, the Ball family lived at 373 Main Street, Bingham Canyon, Salt Lake County, Utah. They owned their house, valued at $2500, and they owned a radio. The household included Everett G. Ball, 55, born in New Jersey, a metal mine engineer, who had married at age 22; his wife, Vina, 50, born in Michigan, who had married at age 18; their sons, Vernon W., 24, born in Michigan, a motion pictures operator; and Roger, 20, born in Utah, a garage attendant. In 1940, the Ball family lived at 373 Main St., Bingham (Bingham Canyon), Utah. The household included Everett Ball, 65, born in New Jersey, a tunnel and mine engineer, who worked 47 weeks in 1939, earning $1177; and his wife, Vina, 65, who was born in Michigan. They owned their home, valued at $3000. [6]

Vina died, aged 77, on 21 July 1955 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was survived by her husband Everett G. Ball. [9]

Vina married Everett George Ball. Vina passed away the day after their 57th wedding anniversary. She died at age 77 in 1955 in Salt Lake City, Utah, and is buried with her husband and four of their children: Rufus, Clarence, Frances Effie, and Roger; and other family at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery, Sandy, Salt Lake, Utah.
