Biography

When Charles William James Suermondt was born on September 2, 1840, in Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, his father, Barthold, was 22 and his mother, Amalie, was 24.

He was one of the founders of the Hohenzollern Locomotive Works & on the Supervisory Board.

He married Emilie Riema on January 29, 1865, in Kirchen, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. They had six children in 12 years.

He died on December 17, 1930, in Potsdam, Brandenburg, Germany, at the age of 90, and was buried in Berlin, Germany.
