David was born in 1817. He was the son of William Suits and his wife Catherine Kerr.
David's father William "Sootz" appeared in the 1820 census residing in the settlement at Hartford in Laughery Township of Dearborn County, Indiana. He was clearly among the first brave settlers of this area, which acquired it's name from the brutal massacre of Colonel Archibald Lochry and his men at the mouth of this creek upon which William first settled. This place, still then, densely covered with forest and infested with bears, wolves and other wild animals. It was here that David Suit's claimed to have been born.
David married the 13th of December in 1838 to Miss Mary Barker. The couple resided in the town of Dillsborough in Clay Township of Dearborn County and there raised their children. David was a merchant and farmer. He made his will dated the 8th of November in 1867. He named his wife Mary and the following children in his will. He bequeathed his 101 acre farm and the adjoining 80 acre "Dennis tract" to his widow. At her death it was to go to his son, and he to pay each sister $1000, the younger 3 as they arrived at 21 years. David died the following Spring of 1868.
