Biography

Nancy was born in 1759 in North Carolina.[1]

She married the Rev. Benjamin Rainey on 4 Mar 1777 at Orange Co, North Carolina, in the midst of the Revolutionary War.[citation needed]

She was named as Nancy Rainey in several land transactions after her marriage.[2]

She died in 1826 at Burlington, Alamance County, North Carolina.[1]

Her grave is located on a small plot, surrounded by stone walls, located at the corner of North and Cloverdale Streets in Burlington, NC. There is only one large marker, the spire of which has been broken off. The front lists the wife, Nancy Rainey, and the back lists Rev. Benjamin Rainey. The graves are located on the corner of North and Cloverdale Steets, beside an active residential home.[1]

Research Notes

There is an Ephraim COOKE married to an Elizabeth SULLINGER, living nearby in Orange County during this period. In 1802, they purchased land adjoining William 'RANY'. This woman could be a sister of Nancy's.
