Othel Hardin Sullivan, age 81, a resident of Stecoah, Graham County, NC and Altamonte Springs, FL, formerly of Williamson County, passed away in Seminole County, FL on March 5, 2005. He was born on November 20, 1923, the son of the late Albert Andrew and Augusta Anna Walker Sullivan, of Fairview, and was the eighth of eleven children.
He was born on the family farm near Fairview and left the farm in 1942 to join the US Navy. During WWII, he was an aircraft mechanic and also served on fire rescue crews at a pilot training field. In 1946, he went to college under the GI Bill and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1950 from William Jennings Bryan University in Dayton, TN. He eventually earned a master's degree in education from George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville in the late 1950s.
In 1948, he married Mary Helen Tew, of Sanford, FL. After his 1950 college graduation, they returned to Middle Tennessee where he worked on a dairy farm in northern Davidson County before returning to the family farm in Williamson County. He began farming on his own, and eventually taught in Williamson County schools and also served as principal at Triangle School before moving the family to Cheatham County in 1957. In 1961, he moved the family to Seminole County, FL, where he taught for an additional 19 years before retiring in 1980.

Services were held March 10, 2005 at Baldwin-Fairchild Altamonte Chapel with cremation and the final resting place of remains in the Tew Family Cemetery (Sic) in Sanford, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Gideons International, 2900 Lebanon Road, Nashville, TN 37214 and state that he was a member of the Graham County Camp.[1]
