ACKERMAN, Doris Maxine – Age 85, of Roseburg, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 1997 in a local care home. She was born January 7, 1912 in Los Angeles, California to Harry and Beatrice (Voshburg) Sullivan. At the age of five she started playing the role of the original Darla in the “Little Rascals” and also starred in silent movies at the Hal Roach Studios. On March 17, 1946 in Reno, Nevada, she married Eugene Ackerman. The Ackerman's moved from Gold Beach, Oregon to Roseburg in 1971. Mrs. Ackerman was a member of the Elks Lodge and enjoyed traveling and cooking. Survivors include her husband, Eugene Ackerman of Roseburg; sons, Allen Shellnut of Chester, California and Larry Shellnut and his wife, Peggy of Oakview, California; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 22, 1997 at 1 p.m. at LONG & SHUKLE MEMORIAL CHAPEL. Chaplain Lee Albjerg will officiate. Private interment will follow in Roseburg Memorial Gardens. Those who wish, may pay their respects on Sunday, December 21, 1997 from 1 until 4 p.m. at LONG & SHUKLE MEMORIAL CHAPEL, who are in charge of arrangements.
