Jeremiah first appears in the 1851 census of Canada with his wife and oldest child, Catherine, as a labourer in Saltfleet Townhip Wentworth County, Canada West, Province of Ontario[5].
By 1861 Jeremiah and his family had moved west to Grimsby township in Lincoln county where he is still listed as a labourer on the 1861 census[6]. The 1871 census lists Jeremiah as a farmer in the same township[7].
Sometime before 1881, Jeremiah moved his family from the Niagara Peninsula northwest to Euphemia Township in Lambton County where he takes up farming again[8][9]. It should be noted that the "District" of Bothwell was an electoral district only. It lasted from 1867 to 1904 and consisted of parts of both Kent and Lambton counties[10]. Although the 1881 census lists the Sullivan's residence as Bothwell, the actual physical location was in Lambton county.
