Milton was the third child of Frederick Sultzbach and Lydia (Gibson) Sultzbach, He was born in Hellam Township, York County, Pennsylvania, on December 26, 1839.[1] and baptized in the Reformed Congregation at Kreutz Creek in Hellam Township on 20 March 1840.[2]
After an education at the local public school he worked as a farmer and in his family's tannery. During the American Civil War he served in the Union Army, as Quartermaster of the 166th Regiment from York County.[1] He took over operation of the tannery after his father's death.[3]
The 1880 U.S. Census recorded Milton Sultzbaugh as 38 years old, single, and a tanner, living in Hellam Township, York County, Pennsylvania, in the household of his widowed mother Lydia Sultzbaugh, age 63. Others listed in the household were his unmarried sisters Emma, age 32, Ellen, age 28, and Annie, age 23; and Isaac Stroman, age 65, an unmarried boarder working as a tanner.[4]
MIlton Sultzbach died in November 1916 and is buried in Kreutz Creek Cemetery in Hellam Township.[5]
