Biography

This profile is part of the Sulzbach Name Study.

Mary Ann was born 19 February 1821. Her baptism was recorded on 22 April 1821 in Trinity Reformed Church in York, Pennsylvania. The baptism record names her parents as Jacob Sultzbach Jr. of Creutz Creek and his wife Nancy. [1]

Between 1830 and 1840, the family moved from York County to Upper Paxton Township in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.

At the 1850 U.S. Census, Mary Ann was recorded in the household of Jacob and Nancy Sultzbach (her parents) in Upper Paxton Township, listed as Mary Ann Plystone, age 28.[2]

She is assumed to be the Mary A. Snyder, age 46, who was recorded in the 1870 U.S. Census in Upper Paxton Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, wife of 56-year-old farmer George Snyder. Residents of that household included Jacob Sultzbach, age 73 (Mary Ann's father), described as a "retired gentleman", as well as five Snyder children, ages from 1 to 20.[3]
