Biography

Uriah was a son of Joseph Sultzbach and Hannah (Landis) Sultzbach. He was born in Pennsylvania on 21 June 1850.

The 1860 U.S. Census recorded Joseph Sultzbaugh, age 35 and a farm hand, and Hannah Sultzbaugh, age 31, and their children living in Upper Paxton Township (Millersburg post office), Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, in a household headed by farmer Jacob Sultzbaugh, age 61 (his father). Other household members included Uriah, age 10.[1]

In 1870, the U.S. Census recorded Uriah Sultzbach, age 20 and a laborer, and Barbara Sultzbach, 19, in Upper Paxton Township, living adjacent to the household of Joseph and Hannah Sultzbach. Uriah has $150 in personal estate.[2]

The 1880 U.S. Census recorded Uriah Sultzbaugh, age 31 and a day laborer, in Juniata Township, Perry County, Pennsylvania, with wife Barbria, age 29, and children Martha J. Sultzbaugh, 10, Ira D. Sultzbaugh, 6, Salome Sultzbaugh, 5, and Clayton Sultzbaugh, 2. All were born in Pennsylvania, of Pennsylvania-born parents.[3]

Uriah Sultzbaugh died on 15 May 1911. A modern memorial stone in Mechanicsburg Cemetery, Mechanicsburg (Cumberland County), Pennsylvania, marked "SULTABAUGH" lists three members of the Sultzbaugh family: Uriah, June 21, 1850 - May 15, 1911; Barbara his wife, Mar. 20, 1851 - Dec. 12, 1904; and Salome Heisey Dau., June 23, 1875 - Dec. 18, 1959.[4]
