Biography

Eric was born to parents John Wilfred and Ethel Summers in 1914, according to his headstone in the Wivenhoe Cemetery.

Eric married Joyce Eileenor Lust of South Burnie in 1937.

Eric worked at the Emu Bay Railway and later opened his own hairdresser and tobacconist business at upper Burnie.

Leo Summers wishes to thank his many clients at Upper Burnie for past patronage, and to notify them that he will be opening an up-to-date Ladies and Gents' Saloon and Tobacconist's Shop in Wilson street, Burnie, on Tuesday, October 22. The Upper Burnie Saloon will be closed from Saturday, October 19.

They had one son Peter John Summers who became a hairdresser as well.

Eric died on Aug 13 1942 and he is in the same grave as his Father, Mother and brother John in the Wivenhoe General Cemetery.[2]

On August 13, at the Spencer Hospital, Wynyard, Eric Leo, dearly beloved husband of Joyce, loving father of Peter, and beloved only son of Wilfred and Ethel Summers, of Upper Burnie; aged 28 years.

The funeral of the late Eric Leo Summers will leave his late residence, Upper Burnie, TO-MORROW (Saturday), at 3 p.m., for the Star of the Sea Church, Burnie, thence for the Wivenhoe cemetery for interment.

Mr. E. L. Summers, Upper Burnie
Mr. Eric Leo Summers, of Upper Burnie, whose death occurred at the Spencer Hospital, Wynyard, early on Thursday morning, after a short illness, was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Summers, of Upper Burnie, where, he was born in 1911.
Employed by the E.B.R. Co., and later by Mr. W. Hays, Upper Burnie, in his spare time he took up hairdressing, and so adept did he become at that trade, that he launched out on his own at Upper Burnie.
About eight years ago he moved to Burnie, where he conducted his own business.
He took a keen interest in sport, and In community affairs at Upper Burnie.
He leaves a widow, formerly Miss Joyce Lust, of South Burnie, whom he married five years ago and a young son, Peter. His only sister, Miss Vera Summers, is a sister at the
Mothercraft Home in Hobart.
The funeral will leave his late residence. Upper Burnie, this afternoon at 3 o'clock for the Star of the Sea Church, Burnie, and the Wivenhoe cemetery.
