Obituary: Ellen Christina Summers Severe, wife of Joseph Severe, departed this life August 3, 1944 at 11:25 p.m. at the home of her daughter Mrs. Iva Wheat after a lingering illness. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio December 10, 1863. She came to Illinois at the age of 4 years, where she passed her entire life. She was united in marriage to Joseph Severe August 20, 1882. To this union 11 children were born, three having preceded her in death: Bert, dying in infancy; Mrs. Belle McGlennen; and Lawrence Severe. She leaves the following to mourn her departure: her husband Joe Severe and the following children, Otis of Tower Hill; Pearl and Walter of Clarksburg; Orlan of Shelbyville; Mrs. Goldie Steele, Clinton, Illinois; Mrs. Stella Zahn, St. Louis, Missouri; Mrs. Edna Russell, Pana, Illinois; and Mrs. Iva Wheat of Lakewood Township; one sister, Mrs. Dave Hatfield of Bluff City, Illinois; one uncle, Andy Betchel of Tower Hill; 43 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a host of other relatives and friends. She bore her suffering with good will, and often made the remark that she was ready and prepared to go at anytime.
