Biography

Junius was born in 1914. He was the son of Robert Summerson and Sarah Miller Summerson. He passed away in 1949.

Junius grew up in Roanoke, Virginia. Following his mother's death in 1921, his father remarried to Mary Caroline Skaggs Hevener, and Junius was raised for a time with his stepmother and several step-siblings in Greenbank, West Virginia^[1] It appears he also stayed for a time with his late mother's family, as he was counted for a second time in the 1930 Federal Census, living with his aunt Susan Miller Wynne and her family in South River, Augusta, Virginia. ^[2] He was 15 years old at the time.

He was married in Dade County, Florida in 1941 to Mona Dorothy Matheny Grant, but the two were divorced within 5 years (with Mona citing "desertion" of "more than two years" as the cause). ^[3]

Junius lived in West Virginia following his divorce, where he worked as a movie theater operator. He had previously worked for United States Federal Housing. On the divorce certificate between Junius and Dorothy, Junius's occupation is stated as "Writing letters / White House."

He died in 1949, at age 34, of a cerebral enema (brain swelling); alcoholism was cited on the death certificate as a related cause of his death.
