Biography

Edward was the sixth child of Deacon George and Mary (Baker) Sumner. He was born on 29 Aug. 1676 in Milton, Massachusetts. He removed from Milton to Roxbury early in life. "The occupation of Edward was Fellmonger (one who deals with and prepares animal skins) and Glover (one who makes gloves)." In addition to his several lots in Roxbury and Dorchester, he owned about 436 acres of land in Sutton, also land in Woodstock and Brookfield.

He married Elizabeth Clapp, daughter of Elder Samuel & Hannah Lees Clapp, on 25 Sep. 1701 in Roxbury, Massachusetts. They had 11 children.

Edward died in 1763 in Roxbury.
