Dr. William Sumner was born on 18 Mar 1699 in Boston, Suffolk, Province of Massachusetts Bay. He was a son of Clement & Margaret Harris. Dr. William Sumner married Hannah Hunt in 1721. They had ten children and resided in Claremont, Sullivan New Hampshire. Three of their children had connections to Westminster, Ontario, Hannah (1730-1830), who married John Kilbourn in Lebanon, Conn in 1746; Clement (1731-1795) and Thomas (1734-1820)
