When Benjamin Sumner Sr. and his twin brother Benjamin were born in 1768 in Onslow, North Carolina, their father, Hezekiah, was 24, and their mother, Abigail, was 23. He married Mary West in 1783 in North Carolina. They had 15 children in 71 years. He died in October 1848 having lived a long life of 80 years.
