Benjamin Sumner married Prudence Hubbard in Hebron, Conn in 1758. He was an early settler of Claremont, and a distinguished man of his time. He came to Claremont about 1767; was selectman in 1769, town clerk, and a large owner as proprietor of rights in the town and representative to the legislature 1784-85--93-94. He was not an ardent supporter of the American cause during the Revolution, which doubtless has much to do with his not attaining more important positions, as he was man of marked ability and qualified to serve. He lived at what is now known as the "Cupola farm." He died in Hebron, Conn in 1737.
