Mary was born in 1836. She was the daughter of George Sumner and Elizabeth Putnam and she is granddaughter of Gen. Israel Putnam, an eminent officer and patriot in War of the Revolution. On 20 Oct 1858, in Hartford, CT, she married Joseph Warren Newcomb Sr. They had one known child. After he passed away in 1866 she married again on 12 Jul 1869 to Charles Marcus Bidwell (1829-1903). They had no children. They lived in Hartford throughout their lives where she passed away in 1887. She is buried at the Center Cemetery.

"Elizabeth Putnam, (Daniel, Gen. Israel, Joseph, Thomas, John), born 24 Sept. 1794; died 1844; married George Sumner, M.D., her cousin, son of George and Mary (Tyler) Sumner.
Mr. Sumner graduated from Yale in 1813; for some years a physician at Hartford, and Professor of Botany in Trinity College; he died 20 Feb. 1855.
