Biography

Mary was the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Sumner. She married Rev. Thomas Balch and they resided in Dedham, Mass, where He was a Pastor of the Congregational Church for 38 years. Her brother Increase, was the father of Governor Increase Sumner (1746-1799) , the 5th Governor of Massachusetts who succeeded Samuel Adams. They raised their family and lived in Dedham all their married life. She died in 1798 in Dedham.
