Biography
James was born in 1844, son of Samuel L. & Keziah (Sohns) (1810-1890) Sumner. He married Anna Ross and they had eight children. His obituary read: "James Sumner of Somenos died the evening of the 15th. Instant, of cancer of the tongue, from which he had been suffering for the past year. He leaves surviving him a wife and seven children to mourn the loss of a kind husband and loving father. - Victoria Daily Colonist - Saturday, January 19, 1889 - Page 4 Column 2
