Dewey is the son of Henry Sumner and Sylvia Jacobs.
He was probably named after both after Adm. George Dewey and for great uncle George Henry Sumner.
Dewey grew up in Lincoln Vermont.
Dewey worked caring for horses at the Webb farm in Shelburne, Vermont with his brother, William, as well as farming and road laborer, finally becoming the town road commissioner from which he retired in the 1960s.
In his last years, Dewey found satisfaction in caring for his lawn, rhubarb patch and the apple trees he had planted and on which he had done the grafting to make them productive.
It was 1992 when Dewey passed away. He was buried Bristol Vermont, Greenwood Cemetary next to his wife Ruth. [1] [2] [3]
