Biography

Mrs. Frances Rodewald, aged 82, a resident of Toluca for almost forty years died at her home at 3 o'clock on Thursday afternoon, March 25. On February 6 she fell in her home, fracturing her hip and was a hospital patient in Streator for three weeks. She was then brought home and seemed to be recovering nicely until she was stricken with pneumonia four days before her death.

The daughter of the late Brunger and Jennie (Monk) Sunken she was born on a farm near Washburn on November 26, 1866 where she grew to young womanhood. Her marriage to John Rodewald took place at the home of her parents on, February 24, 1892. To this union seven children were born, one of whom died in infancy, Siebert at the age of 6 and Bert, a First World War veteran died in England in 1918. Mr. Rodewald died in 1929. The following children are left to mourn her death: John and William of Toluca, Folkert of Wenona and Hiska Marguete (Maggie) Weir of Henry. There are twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Richard Sunken of Toluca and John Sunken of Eureka.

She was a faithful member at St. John's Lutheran church and was a loving wife and mother during her long and useful life.

Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Amione Funeral home with Rev. W. C. Volkmann officiating. Two beautiful hymns "Who Knows How Soon My Days Are Ended" and "In The Hour of Trial" were sung by a quartet composed of Mrs. W. C. Volkmann, Mrs. Walter Schumacker, Ernest Christ, and Edward Volkmann. Interment was made in St. John's Lutheran cemetery with the following acting as pallbearers: Elmer J. Henn, Albert McCasky, William Falk, Walter Wink, John Juers and Harold Dahlbach. Relatives from out of town attending the services were: John Sunken and Mr. and Mrs. John Rohrer of Eureka; Mr. and Mrs. Brainerd Sunken and family and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Smith of Rutland; Oliver Sunken of Benson; Mr, and Mrs. Glen Rodewald of LaSalle and Ike Weir and son of Henry.


TOLUCA-(special)- Mrs. Frances Rodewald, 82, resident of Toluca for many years, died at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon in her home here. Suffering a fractured hip in a fall at her home February 5, she was a patient in St. Mary's hospital, Streator, for three weeks after which she was brought home. She was stricken Monday with pneumonia which caused her passing, funeral rites will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Aimone funeral home by Rev. W.C. Volkmann, pastor of St. John's Lutheran church, interment will be made in St. John's cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening and Saturday.
