  4. Obituary: MAN FOUND SHOT. Joseph Surawski (38), hotelkeeper, at Kumbia, near Goomeri, was found yesterday morning in an outhouse of the Stock Exchange Hotel, Queen street, with gunshot wounds in the forehead and mouth. He was conscious, and died an hour after admission to the Brisbane Hospital. The licensee of the hotel (Mr. J. A. Noonan) said that at 11.30 a.m. he heard a loud report which he took to be the bursting of a motor car tyre. Twenty minutes later Harold Hayden, a barman, discovered Surawski lying in an outhouse. Alongside the body were found a Winchester repeating rifle and a box of .32 cartridges. In his pockets were found a medical prescription and the sum of £2/8/. A letter on him bore the address of J. Surawski, St. Martin's Hostel. Some years ago Surawski was the joint licensee of the Broadway Hotel, South Brisbane. He came to Brisbane late in August, and made known his intention of entering a private hospital. CITY TRAGEDY. (1928, November 16). The Brisbane Courier (Qld. : 1864 - 1933), p. 18.
