Joseph was born May 22, 1712 in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia. He is the son of Pierre Surette and Jeanne Pellerin.  He was baptized June 18, 1712 at St. Jean Baptiste Parish in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia.
According to Placide Gaudet, Joseph drowned in the Petitcoudiac River about 1750 at age 38.
