Biography

Johann's marriage to Margaret Reid was registered in the Jan-Feb-Mar quarter of 1862 in the Newcastle upon Tyne district.^[1][2] In this town, in St. John's Church, on the 17th inst., by the Rev. H. W. Wright, Mr I. H. Sussmilch, jeweller and galvanic agent, to Margaret, fifth daughter of Mr John Reid tanner. Newcastle Guardian and Tyne Mercury - Saturday 22 February 1862 On the same day [Monday], Mr. J. H. Sussmilch, jeweller and galvanic agent, to Margaret. fifth daughter of Mr. John Reed, tanner, of Newcastle. Gateshead Observer - Saturday 22 February 1862 (two versions for spelling)

His marriage was shortlived, as on Wednesday 5 August 1863, he appeared before a bench of aldermen, asking that his wife, Margaret, be bound over to keep the peace. They had apparently already agreed to separate. The order was granted. Newcastle Chronicle - Saturday 08 August 1863
