My grandmother Edith married Edward A. Sutherby. I want you know that he was a sweet, wonderful man.
When Grandpa was dying, I came home after school and took over his care from my grandmother. I was only a sophomore in high school and I loved him so much. When I needed to turn him on the bed, only once did he cry out in pain. When he died at home, it was the worst day. My friend and guardian angel was gone.
I know Grandpa gambled; sometimes when he had to babysit me he took me to the horse track. I learned what win, place and show were, the stats on the horse and if the horse’s name stood out to him. Needless to say I was bored to tears, but I was with him.
I want you to know he watched over me since I was born in 1957. I laughed at his sense of humor, e.g. “That person can’t sing worth sour apples!” He called me “girl,” and he would hide in the basement in a rocking chair to get away from my grandmother. I would come down the stairs and flip on the light and it scared me to death. He even hid in the back of my mother’s car to get away and he scared her.
Thank the Family that shared this wonderful man from Manitoba, Canada with us. He is as loved by me.
