Ann Sutherland is assumed to have been born in Caithness, probably Latheron, between 1756 and 1761 [1]
The birth date is based on the assumption that Ann is the Ann Sutherland with James & Margaret Cormack at Forse, Latheron in the 1841 census[2], Margaret being her daughter [3]
However for the children shown as belonging to the family even 1756 seems a tad on the late side so all dates and identifications should be treated with caution Henderson-2297 01:19, 8 November 2018 (UTC)

Daughter's (Jane Sutherland) Statutory Death Record
Scotland baptism and marriage record, Daughter Margaret's death certificate.
A great deal of work has been done in recent years on the membership of the Sutherland of Blackness, Sutherland of Golsary and Sutherland of Catchery families who all descend from the main cadet branches of the Sutherland family. These three families have intermarried many times over many generations. A frequent problem is the limited use of Christian names owing to all 3 families strongly adhering to the traditional Highland Scottish naming pattern.
As a result it appears there are 2 distinct William Sutherlands married to Ann Sutherlands at exactly the same time and in broadly the same location (Parish of Latheron and adjacent parishes of Halkirk, Wick, Thurso and Canisbay). All of these locations are within a day’s walk. Please therefore do not suggest merging profiles or worse still actually merge profiles which look like the same person within these families without consulting me first. Both families have children with the same names born often within months of one another.

Sutherland-4415 and Sutherland-889 appear to represent the same person because: These are the same Ann Sutherland. The Golsary couple appear to have married at Canisbay in 1778
Sutherland-2745 and Sutherland-889 appear to represent the same person because: another Golsary/Blackness merge and all 3 Profile Managers are descendants
Grant, FYI there are two Margaret SUTHERLANDs of approx. the same age, both with dth certs. showing them to be daughters of William SUTHERLAND and Ann SUTHERLAND.
One died 1855, married to Alexander SUTHERLAND, the other 1864 married to James CORMACK.
More work is needed to distinguish the two, so for now the unmerged match of the parents should stand, despite what I said below!
although I don't believe the Canisbay couple married in 1778 are "your" William and Ann, I do believe that the unmerged matches listed for the couple should proceed.
They definitely had a daughter Margaret, who married James CORMACK.
Sutherland-3258 and Sutherland-889 appear to represent the same person because: see notes for husband William's proposed merge so daughter Esther's profile can also be merged
many thanks for this you are the expert on these matters and delighted that another piece of the jigsaw is in place! best wishes rob
