Biography

John Sutherland is a member of Clan Sutherland.

John was born about 1780. He is the son of James Sutherland and Helen McBeath.

In his will, James Lord Duffus refers to “Captain John Sutherland, my natural son, adjutant to Lord…. Regiment of Irish Militia”.

Notes

John may have been a "chip off the old block". He is known to have fathered at least one daughter but as a number of men of unknown Irish origins are showing the Sutherland yDNA, he may have fathered some sons during his time in Galway!
