Minnie Sutherland (married name Burns) was born on 14 August 1890 in South Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, the daughter of Mary Elizabeth Sutherland (nee Pascoe) and Thomas Sutherland.^[1]

She married Charles Gibson Burns on 21 June 1919 at the Presbyterian Church in Brunswick, Victoria.^[1] Their children were:^[1]

• Elvie Jean Burns (1921–2008)
• Nellie Burns (1923–1923)
• Ronald Richard Burns (1928–1954)
• Laurence David Burns (1931–1954)
