John Humphrey Sutherland was born on November 27, 1922 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, son of Daniel Fleming Sutherland (1893–1967) and Elizabeth Sadie Humphrey (1895–1976).

John had a brother, William Angus Sutherland (1916–1990).

John married Alice Mary Harnett (born on February 11, 1924 in Lewisporte, Newfoundland).

John died on May 29, 2000 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, aged 77.

Obituary

SUTHERLAND, John (Jack) Humphrey The family announces with sorrow his passing on May 29th, 2000 in hospital after a lengthy illness. Beloved husband and best friend of 49 years to Alice (nee Harnett). Lovingly remembered by his children: David (April), Glenn (Christine) and Keith (Viv). Cherished grandfather of Nikki, Luke and Christopher. Dear brother of Doug and Bill (deceased). Deeply missed by his adopted family: Jim, Lotica, Evan and Julien Potvin. Jack was born and raised in Vancouver, B.C. where he attended the University of B.C., graduating with an Engineering degree. Like many of his generation, he answered his nation's call to arms, joining the Canadian Navy. He was a retiree of Northern Telecom (Montreal). He will be greatly missed for his kind and gentle nature, as well as his keen sense of humour. At Jack's request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private family celebration of Jack's life will be scheduled for a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be sent to The Parkinson Foundation of Canada, 4211 Yonge Street, Suite 316, Toronto, Ontario. M2P 2A9.
