Biography

The following is an excerpt from "The Sutherland Family of Algiers Louisiana. The author Henry French Brownlee has done extensive research along with several other family members.

Daniel Sutherland was born in The Sutherland Highlands in the early 18th century. He joined the Scottish Army and went to Holland/Netherlands to help the Dutch fight for their independence. He met and married Anna Maria Susanna Brocks in Maastricht, Limburg. The only child that is known to be born to Daniel and Anna is Daniel Sutherland born 1758. Daniel and his wife died in the Netherlands, most likely in Maastricht.
