George H. Sutherlin was born in 1826 in Virginia. to George and Polly Sutherlin.
In 1860 in Danville, Virginia, he was employed as an overseer. Wife Mary K. Sutherlin noted as born in Ohio about 1834.
George would enlist in the CSA, joining Company E of the 38th Virginia Infantry, which was formed on May 28, 1861. As happened to many of the soldiers of the 38th, Lt. George H. Sutherlin became ill later in the year, and died in Danville on December 13, 1861.
