Jane is the daughter of Edmund Sutton (b. c. 1435? - dvp. 06 Jul 1483/6) and his second wife, Maud Clifford. Her paternal grandfather is Lord Dudley. She became the first of three wives who married Sir William Middleton of Stockeld, Yorkshire (will: 02 Aug 1549; proved 11 Mar 1552/3). He was High Sheriff of Yorkshire in 1526.

Foster (1874), asserts that she died in 1500. Her husband went on to remarry and obtained a license with his second wife Isabella Dighton, on 13 November 1508.
