Biography

Kings son and birkebeinarhøvding "BIRKEBEINER chief". Parents: King Sverre Sigurdsson (ca. 1150-1202), mother Unknown. Not married. Father of King Guttorm Sigurdsson (1200-1204); brother of King Haakon 3 Sverresson (died 1204).

Sigurd Lavard was eldest son of King Sverre Sigurdsson. From early review in 1190 establishments, he had assignments as sveithøvding in battle against Bagle. According Sverre saga, he was afraid and Sverre on two opportunity unusually sharp and in saying assessment of zone violation capabilities.

During excavations at Bryggen quarters the mass of filler after the fire in 1198 found an runic letter (rune rock, registration no. B448), writing of Sigurd Lavard. The letter is writing on behalf of the king, and may indicate that Sigurd had important functions in King Sverre military supply apparatus. In the letter he asks that weapons equipment is formed by a reminder Population pig iron. You still he asks also whether a longship to the king, but this is controversial. As motyting lovar Sigurd recipient "our true friendship now and always." According Liestøl have runic letter was in elegant style of courtly wording and secure orthography, who testified good educational training. Letter was tried to match 1190 establishments, but attempts to connect it to a specific historical events and for a particular place could not be found
